The Schools, Health & Libraries Broadband (SHLB) Coalition invites you to attend “The Future of the Heartland’s Health: A Senate Briefing on the FCC’s Rural Health Care Program.”

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has embarked on a new effort to revamp the Rural Health Care (RHC) Program. The RHC Program helps fund the broadband needed to get health providers up to speed. Yet the RHC Program, a crucial program for the health of America’s heartland, is in crisis. The RHC Program demand greatly exceeded the $400 Million cap in Funding Year 2016 and 2017, resulting in reductions in funding.

Come hear from the RHC applicants themselves.  From Alaska to New England, our panel will demonstrate how this program has transformed healthcare across the country and saved lives. Telehealth is especially important in rural communities that face a shortage of doctors and specialty providers, patients that face further distances to travel to obtain care, and an aging population. The SHLB Coalition believes it’s time to promote broadband funding so that rural healthcare has the broadband speeds necessary to support telehealth services.

Join us for lunch to learn about the comments submitted to the FCC about how to upgrade the RHC program and Congress’ role.
